Uninstall Okta Mobile on Android
Okta Mobile enrolls an Android device with a work profile and device-admin privileges, so it can’t be dragged to the trash like a normal app — a plain uninstall is blocked while the app holds device administrator status. Removal is a two-stage process: deactivate the admin/work-profile piece first, then uninstall the residual app. Okta documents the general pattern for managed devices under its Device Trust for Android docs; Android’s work-profile removal flow is documented by Google (remove a work account/profile from an Android device).
Procedure
- Deactivate device admin — open Android Settings → Security → Device admin apps (path varies slightly by OEM/Android version) and toggle Okta Mobile off.
- Confirm work-profile removal — you’ll be prompted that the controlled work profile and all data it contains will be deleted. Confirm. This removes the managed profile and every work app inside it (cf. Google’s work profile removal steps: Settings → Passwords & accounts → Work tab → Remove work profile → Delete).
- Uninstall the residual app — a leftover copy of Okta Mobile typically remains in the personal profile after the work profile is gone. Uninstall it like any normal app.
Related: removing Okta Verify (the MFA app) is a different flow — delete the account from the Okta end-user dashboard’s security methods first, then remove the app (Okta — Delete Okta Verify from Android).
